The Rise of Documentary Films on Online Gaming Culture

Video games have evolved from a ดูข้อมูลเพิ่มเติม pastime to a social hub for players around the world. With the recent rise of online gaming culture, filmmakers have jumped on board to share these experiences through documentary films. Documentaries that are centered around gaming have shown the positive impact it has on people’s lives, as well as the diverse communities that form from it. These films are a great way to show the world that games are more than just an entertainment medium and should be treated as such.

The Rise of Episodes and the Ultra Long Form

The year 2014 marked a turning point for documentary film when Sarah Koenig debuted her wildly successful twelve-episode Serial podcast. This series and Netflix’s true-crime docuseries, Making a Murderer, demonstrated that it was possible for an audience to remain engrossed in documentary-style storytelling when presented over ten or more episodes.

These successes have brought an increasing number of SVOD platforms to invest in the genre, leading to more opportunities for documentary makers. However, this growth also comes with a price. In 2021, the Sundance Film Festival saw a record number of documentary sales, but many of these titles fell short of expectations at the box office. Some buyers are starting to pull back, including Showtime, which ceased outside commissions of unscripted content last fall.

A new generation of documentary-makers is emerging, one that has grown up with the digital age and uses it as a tool to create compelling and meaningful narratives. This generation is increasingly interested in how companies are using their power for good, and they want to know that the products they purchase are being used responsibly. Creating a documentary that highlights these positive business practices is an excellent way for brands to show consumers they care and encourage current customers to keep buying their product.
